Carin Forman

Carin has more than twenty two years experience in information technology, broadcast, media, entertainment, international and marketing.  Having started her career at CNN in London, she moved back to the United States to join Discovery Communications in 1990.  There she held many diversified roles from International Sales and Marketing, to copywriting, Home Videos product design and international print campaigns for their terrestrial broadcasters. Carin also worked with the cinematographers and photographers in selecting the needed imagery, graphics and logos for marketing campaigns for Discovery’s Home Video and international print materials for MIP, MIPCOM and the Cannes Film Festival.

Having frequently locating photography, graphics, logos and footage for promotional campaigns, Carin recognized a void in their systems and wrote a business plan to start a Digital Asset Management department and footage archive called Discovery Images.  That initiative launched in September of 1996, serving over 300 users.  In that capacity, Carin’s team digitally uploaded, meta-tagged and indexed Discovery’s owned footage assets into a repository for staff and producers.

In 1999, Carin left Discovery to take on more consulting work in the digital asset management and digital workflows.  Carin worked with such clients as Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment, Ascent Media and Liberty Livewire, developing best practices for enterprise wide asset digital asset management initiatives.

In 2003 Carin re-joined Discovery Communication’s IT team where she focused on the growing library of digital assets (Video, Stills, Music) and bringing more content online programmatically.  Through technical integration with other IT business systems and developing a robust DAM philosophy, Discovery began moving towards digital workflows with online submission, review, approval and collaboration of digital dailies.
Carin was responsible for putting systems in place to receive video assets (programs, promos, advertising campaigns) directly from broadcast systems so staff, business partners and sales channels could work with digital content and not rely on DVD or physical copies.

This shift in the business resulted in cost saving and greater time to market as content could be accessed online.  When Carin left Discovery Communications in 2009, the “Digital Media Center” was servicing over 7,000 global users and streaming almost 4,000 hours of video monthly.

In April 2009, Carin joined Home Box Office (HBO) as the Director of Digital Media in HBO’s IT Application Development department. In that role Carin had technical responsibility for HBO’s Digital Asset Management system, the Digital Library and a document management application, Xpedio.  Having supported her business clients in Creative Services, in 2011 Carin moved back to her creative roots as the Director of Digital Photo Services.  In that role she is building digital-end-to-end workflows in support of HBO’s photographers and Photo Services team, responsible for all HBO photography

In her free time Carin enjoys spending time with family and friends.  She enjoys skiing, tennis, travel and laughter.
